Description
Summary:Sebastes babcocki (Thompson, 1915). Redbanded Rockfish . To 92 cm (36.2 in) FL (DFO); 94.8 cm (37.3 in) TL based on conversion factors in Echeverria and Lenarz (1984). Bering Sea at Zhemchug Canyon (Allen and Smith 1988), and Amchitka Island, Aleutian Islands (Mecklenburg et al. 2002) to San Diego, southern California (Miller and Lea 1972). Benthic; depth: 21–1,150 m (69–3,772 ft) (min.: DFO; max.: NWFSC-FRAM). Between the time of its description and the early 1970s, researchers considered the Redbanded Rockfish to be synonymous with the Flag Rockfish, Sebastes rubrivinctus (Jordan & Gilbert, 1880). Work by Rosenblatt and Chen (1972) distinguished these species. However, this misidentification added confusion to various fishery studies and it is now assumed that most or all “Flag Rockfish” previously reported from Oregon to Alaska are Redbanded Rockfish. : Published as part of Love, Milton S., Bizzarro, Joseph J., Cornthwaite, Maria, Frable, Benjamin W. & Maslenikov, Katherine P., 2021, Checklist of marine and estuarine fishes from the Alaska-Yukon Border, Beaufort Sea, to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, pp. 1-285 in Zootaxa 5053 (1) on page 106, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.5053.1.1, http://zenodo.org/record/5578008 : {"references": ["Echeverria, T. & Lenarz, W.
