Description
Summary:Phippsiella Schellenberg Phippsiella Schellenberg, 1925: 200. Phippsiella Berge and Vader, 1997a. Type species. Stegocephalu s similis Sars, 1895. Species. Phippsiella abyssicol a Oldevig, 1959; P. bioice Berge and Vader, 1997; P. cascadiensis Moore, 1992; P. kergueleni Schellenberg, 1926; P. longicornis Gurjanova, 1962; P. minima Stephensen, 1925; P. nipoma Barnard, 1961; P. pajarella Barnard, 1967; P. pseudophippsi a Bellan-Santini, 1984; P. rostrata K. H. Barnard, 1932; P. similis (Sars, 1883); P. viscaina Barnard, 1967. Species found in the area. Phippsiella cascadiensis , P. longicornis , P. pajarella and P. viscaina . Remarks. The speci®c status of P. pajarella Barnard, 1967 is uncertain, as its description was based upon a single immature (only 2.1 mm) specimen. Phippsiella pajarella can, at present, best be distinguished from its congeners by the unhooked setae on the outer plate of maxilla 2. Otherwise, its immature characteristics of e.g. the short and weakly articulate antennae, and the weakly setose pereopods make it di cult to distinguish from immature specimens of other Phippsiella spp. Type material of P. cascadiensis has been examined, and some important diOEerences with the original description were revealed (see below). : Published as part of Vader, Berge Wim, 2001, North Paci ® c species of the amphipod (Crustacea) family Stegocephalidae, with description of one new species and redescription of another, pp. 985-1000 in Journal of Natural History 35 on pages 987-988 : {"references": ["SCHELLENBERG, A., 1925, Die Gammariden Spitzbergens nebst einer U E bersicht der von RoEmer and Schaudinn 1898 im noErdlichen Eismeer gesammelten Arten, Mitteilungen aus dem Zoologische n Museum in Berlin, 11 (2), 195 \u00b1 231.", "BERGE, J. and VADER, W., 1997 a, North Atlantic and Mediterranean species of the genus Phippsiella Schellenberg (Amphipoda: Stegocephalidae), Journal of Natural History, 31, 1501 - 1532.", "SARS, G.
