Description
Summary:Thagria malenovskyi , sp. nov. (Plate 2D, Figs. 86–93) Length. Male 8.00–8.50 mm; female unknown. External morphology. Medium size, slightly robust species. General color black; face dark brown with narrow black margins (Plate 2D). Head narrower than pronotum, anterior margin rounded; crown broad, wider than eye width, slightly produced distally, lateral margins convergent basally, disk slightly elevated; eyes pronotum large, about 1/3 longer than crown, surface rugulose with sparse bullae; mesonotum large, about as long medially as pronotum; forewings typical; clypeus long, broad, lateral margins nearly parallel; clypellus broad, inflated basally, tapered in apical half. Male genitalia. Pygofer in lateral and dorsal views with narrow caudoventral lobe, caudodorsal margin with pair of moderately long, digitate processes, pointed apically (Figs. 86, 87); aedeagus slightly asymmetrical, long, reaching beyond midlength of ventral paraphysis (Figs. 88, 89); ventral paraphysis in dorsal view asymmetrical with apical, subapical and subbasal processes Fig. 88), in lateral view apical process constricted basally, expanded apically, subapical process asymmetrically bifurcate, arising from ventral margin, subbasal process large, toothed, arising from laterodorsal margin (Fig. 89); style very short, extending to base of aedeagus, apophysis broad medially, tapered distally (Figs. 90, 91); connective in dorsal view with long arms, broad stem (Fig. 90); dorsal connective in dorsobasal view broadly U-shape, rami very narrow, attached to base of ventral processes of segment X (Fig. 92); segment X concealed ventral processes with caudal pentate ring (Fig. 92); subgenital plate with row of macrosetae on outer lateral margin (Fig. 93). Material examined. Holotype male, LAOS-N, Phongsaly prov., 21° 41–2’N 102° 06–8’E, 28.v–20.vi.2003, PHONGSALY envi., 1500 m. Vit Kuban, leg., Entomological expedition, Laos 2003, Moravian Museum, Brno, Czech Republic (BRNO). Paratypes, 2 males, same data as holotype (BRNO, MLBM) Etymology. This species is named for Dr. Igor Malenovsky, Moravian Museum, Brno, Czech Republic. Remarks. From quadrata Freytag to which it is similar in configuration of the ventral paraphysis, malenovskyi can be distinguished by presence of the subbasal tooth process (absent in quadrata ), basal constricted apical process, bifurcate subapical process and all black color. : Published as part of NIELSON, M.
