Summary:Abstract The Brambling Fringilla montifringilla has a large breeding distribution across the entire Palaearctic taiga region. Birds in the Far East are more brightly coloured and formerly separated as subspecies subcuneolata (S. Cramp & C. M. Perrins 1994; Handbook of the Birds of Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. To reveal possible geographical variation in the size of the wing, primary feathers, bill, and in the extent of the partial post-juvenile moult, we present measurements taken from 579 skins of the Natural History Museum, Tring UK, Natural History Museum of Denmark, Copenhagen, The Arctic University Museum of Norway, Tromsø, Natural History Museum, University of Oslo, Zoologisches Forschungsmuseum Alexander Koenig, Bonn, Swedish Museum of Natural History, Stockholm, and Finnish Museum of Natural History, Helsinki.
