Description
Summary:Verum carinatum (Hoek, 1883) Fig. 37 Scalpellum carinatum Hoek, 1883: 76, pl. III, figs 7–8; Pilsbry, 1907a: 53, fig. 18; Gruvel, 1920: 20; Barnard, 1925: 3; Broch, 1953: 7; Weisbord, 1977: 243–244, pl. 27, figs 3–4. Scalpellum imperfectum Pilsbry, 1907a: 75, fig. 30, pl. IV, figs 15–18; Annandale, 1913: 233; Barnard, 1924: 47; MacDonald, 1929: 537; Broch, 1953: 9; Stubbings, 1961: 11, text-fig. 2; 1967: 234. Meroscalpellum imperfectum : Newman & Ross, 1971: 119, text-fig 62. Verum carinatum : Zevina, 1981a: 225–226, fig. 163. Material examined. Holotype NHM UK 2013.1134 and paratype NHM UK 2013.1135, Stn 135: Atlantic, Southeast (near Tristan da Cuhna Island); 1830 m. Supplementary description. Zevina (1981a), includes descriptions of appendages (but see remarks). Distribution. Atlantic, excluding polar areas;?Pacific, Southeast. Known depth range 600 to 2400 m. Remarks. According to the revision of the scalpellids by Zevina (1981a), Scalpellum imperfectum (Pilsbry, 1907a: 75, fig. 30, pl. IV, figs 15–18) is accepted as a synonym of Verum carinatum . However, the details of the plates differ, in particular the V-shaped tergum of S. imperfectum differs from that of S. carinatum . The description of the appendages in Zevina (1981a) was translated from Pilsbry (1907a) and may not be related to V. carinatum . A redescription of this species is needed. : Published as part of Shalaeva, Kate & Boxshall, Geoff, 2014, An illustrated catalogue of the scalpellid barnacles (Crustacea: Cirripedia: Scalpellidae) collected during the HMS " Challenger " expedition and deposited in the Natural History Museum, London, pp. 1-63 in Zootaxa 3804 (1) on page 53, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.3804.1.1, http://zenodo.org/record/4917932 : {"references": ["Hoek, P.
