Summary:Synthecium protectum Jäderholm, 1903 Material examined: BBB 2016: St. 5; St. 12; St. 13; St. 23; St. 27; St. 31; St. 32; St. 33; St. 34; St. 36; St. 38; St. 39. GARCÍA 2015: St. 17 (Fig. 2G) (MACN-In: 43451, 43452, 43453, 43454, 43455). Distribution: In the southwestern Atlantic Ocean the species was found between 35 – 55°S reported as Synthecium robustum; also found in Chilean waters, Calbuco, Chile as S. chilense (see Oliveira et al. 2016). Remarks: Abundant, big and fertile colonies were widely reported in all the studied sub-areas.
