Description
Summary:Presentation at the PROSNOW (H2020) "Climate services relevant to ski tourism" webinar on September 28, 2020 14h-17h CEST. Abstract: Arctic Centre at the University of Lapland and Ruka Ski Resort have co-designed a climate service for winter tourism in Northern Finland within the within the Blue-Action: Arctic Impact on Weather and Climate project (2016-2021) (EU Horizon 2020). The climate service prototype offers a seasonal forecast on snowmaking conditions. The climate service called SnowApp provides a reliable forecast on the conditions for 4 weeks and is hence a decision-support tool for the ski resort management. SnowApp is particularly useful in the critical condititions in the early skiing season and for anticipating exceptionally warm periods exceeding 3-4 days weather forecast. The prototype designed with a real end-user will be made available also for new uptakers within the ski industry in Finland and abroad.
