O. tyrannus tyrannus can be recognised by the elytra surface with fine sparse punctures entirely, bearing short recumbent fine yellowish white pubescence. Type . Olethrius tyrannus Thomson, Lectotype male in MNHN, with the following labels “ Olethrius Thoms. E. 316 | tyrannus Thoms. Type, N. iles Hebrides | Museum Paris Coll. J. Thomson 1952 | Th. TYPE”. Material examined . Vanuatu: ANIC (1 ♂ ): S. Bule, Efate, Jul. 2004; OAI (1 ♂ ): Banks Island, 1914, Allen. Locality?: OAI (1 ♀ ): “Port Sunlight, Lever Bros, 4.5.09/ ex W.W. Froggatt Collection ”. Remarks . The specimen from OAI from the W.
