Summary: | (Uploaded by Plazi for the Bat Literature Project) Baseline survey of present bat populations was conducted in south-eastern part of Istria, during the period from February to November 2013. Apart from surveys of 36 potential roost sites (31 underground and 5 overground sites), mist netting and acoustic surveys were also carried out to determine bat species composition. A total of 11 bat species (Rhinolophus euryale, R. ferrumequinum, R. hipposideros, Hypsugo savii, Myotis blythii oxygnathus, M. emarginatus, Nyctalus noctula, Pipistrellus kuhlii, P. pipistrellus, Miniopterus schreibersii, Tadarida teniotis) and genus Plecotus were recorded. Bats were recorded at 21 sites, out of which two previously unknown important roosts were discovered. Industrial plant in Bršica is an important roost site for a larger number of bats (R. ferrumequinum, M. blythii oxygnathus, M. emarginatus) that form maternity colonies.
