Summary:(Uploaded by Plazi for the Bat Literature Project) A genetic analysis (402 bp of cytochrome b gene, 5' end) of East-Mediterranean specimens of pipistrelle bats showed the occurrence of Pipistrellus pygmaeus in Turkish Thrace and P. pipistrellus in western Syria, respectively. No important difference in the examined gene sequences was found between P. pygmaeus from Turkey and those from other parts of its distributional range (the Balkans, central Europe); however, there was a difference of 0.75–1.25% between Syrian P. pipistrellus and central-European individuals. ...
