Summary:This table contains geographic positions of humpback whale ( Megaptera novaeangliae ) group encounters recorded between 2003 and 2016 in New Caledonia. Observations were obtained through crowdsourcing or research surveys conducted by Opération Cétacés and Institut de Recherche pour le Développement. This data was used in the study: "Finding the right fit: Comparative cetacean distribution models using multiple data sources" by Derville S, Torres L G, Iovan C, and Garrigue C. : Latitude and longitude are provided in EPSG4326 format (a.k.a WGS84: http://spatialreference.org/ref/epsg/wgs-84/). Dates of observations are provided in %Year-%month-%day format in New Caledonian Time (GMT + 11). Humpback whale positions are labeled with "type = crowdsourced" or "type = research" depending on the source of the observation.
