Summary: | This ocean-sea ice model FESOM2 (Danilov et al., 2017) version includes the Lagrangian iceberg model described by Rackow et al. (2017), which had been developed for the predecessor version of FESOM (FESOM1.4, Wang et al., 2014). This version introduces freshwater and heat feedback from model icebergs to the ocean domain and hence enables fully coupled interactive model icebergs. Furthermore, it introduces the possibility of running the interactive iceberg component within a coupled atmosphere-ocean setup, in which the wind forcing for the model icebergs comes from the interactive atmosphere component and does not need to be prescribed externally anymore. New implementations include a simple scheme to avoid saturation of ocean grid cells with model icebergs and a reduced iceberg-ocean coupling frequency, as well as a scaling approach, both of which allow for a speedup of the iceberg model component runtime. ... |
