Summary:This three-year project aims to establish a Campbell Scientific CS110 electric field meter in the Antarctic at both the South Pole and McMurdo Stations. In coordination with a currently funded NSF proposal, which supports the same instruments deployed in the Arctic (AGS-2219639), this project would provide a unique prospective of the Global Electric Circuit (GEC) from both poles simultaneously, with the same instruments calibrated in the exact manner. The project aims to first intercompare the simultaneously measured fair-weather vertical electric field at the two Antarctic sites with varying elevations on the sub hourly, hourly, diurnal, seasonal, and interannual timescales. Furthermore, observing the sub hourly, hourly, diurnal, seasonal, and interannual variability of the GEC system from both poles would provide direct evidence as to the true global nature of the system.
