Summary:These animations show so-called Lagrangian growth rates (LGR) of forecast uncertainty based on operational ensemble prediction systems. The first animation shows LGR of potential vorticity on 315 K from the ECMWF ensemble data assimilation background forecasts, and the second animation shows LGR of geopotential height at 250 hPa from four TIGGE ensemble systems (ECMWF, JMA, NCEP and UKMO).
