Description
Summary:The Eurobarometer series is a unique cross-national and cross-temporal survey program conducted on behalf of the European Commission. These surveys regularly monitor public opinion in the European Union (EU) member countries and consist of standard modules and special topic modules. The standard modules address attitudes towards European unification, institutions and policies, measurements for general socio-political orientations, as well as respondent and household demographics. The special topic modules address such topics as agriculture, education, natural environment and resources, public health, public safety and crime, and science and technology. This round of Eurobarometer surveys covers the special topics: national and European identity, and electromagnetic fields and health. Questions pertain to citizenship and origin of family, connections with other countries, knowledge of languages, mobility across countries in the next 10 years, attachment to other countries, regional identity, and belonging to majority and minority groups. Other questions address awareness of electromagnetic fields sources and their effects on health, as well as opinions about protection from these fields. Demographic and other background information collected includes age, gender, nationality, marital status and parental relations, occupation, age when stopped full-time education, household composition, ownership of a fixed or mobile telephone and other goods, difficulties in paying bills, level in society, and Internet use. In addition, country-specific data includes type and size of locality, region of residence, and language of interview (select countries). : Please review the ICPSR codebook; "Variable Documentation" section for information concerning individual weights and the "Technical Specifications" section for general weighting information. : ICPSR data undergo a confidentiality review and are altered when necessary to limit the risk of disclosure. ICPSR also routinely creates ready-to-go data files along with setups in the major statistical software formats as well as standard codebooks to accompany the data. In addition to these procedures, ICPSR performed the following processing steps for this data collection: Checked for undocumented or out-of-range codes.. : Datasets: DS0: Study-Level Files DS1: GESIS DS2: ICPSR : Eurobarometer Survey Series : face-to-face interview The original data collection was carried out by TNS Opinion and Social on request of the European Commission between March 12 and April 1, 2010. This collection is being released in two parts. Part 1 contains the original files provided by GESIS and Part 2 the ICPSR-processed collection. Data for all previously-embargoed variables are now available. A split ballot was used for one or more questions in this survey. The variable V613 defines the separate groups. The Consumer Empowerment (QA) module was surveyed in this Eurobarometer and Eurobarometer 73.2 (ICPSR 29761). However, the data for this module are not available in Eurobarometer 73.3 (ICPSR 30161). Module QA is only available as a separate merged data set in "Eurobarometer 73.2 and 73.3: Consumer Empowerment, February-April 2010" (ICPSR 34082). The documentation and/or setup files may contain references to Croatia, Macedonia, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, Turkey, and the Turkish Cypriot Community, but these countries were not participants in this wave of Eurobarometer surveys. This collection contains no data for Croatia, Macedonia, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, Turkey, and the Turkish Cypriot Community. : In all, Eurobarometer 73.3 interviewed 26,602 citizens in the 27 countries of the European Union after the 2004/2007 enlargement (i.e. including the Accession Countries Romania and Bulgaria). All respondents were residents in the respective country, nationals and non-nationals but EU-citizens, and aged 15 and over.
