Description
Summary:Proposals for the development of research on microplastic pollution of waters and bioresources in the areas of transboundary fisheries are presented. The materials of FSBI “VNIRO” on microplastic pollution collected on the surface of the seas by Manta 335 micron net in the Arctic seas in August-October 2019-2022 and processed according to a unified methodology are summarised. The conducted research has filled the gaps in knowledge about the real level of microplastic pollution in the marine environment of the Arctic region. The level of plastic pollution of surface waters of the Russian Arctic seas was lower compared to other areas of the World Ocean. It is shown that a significant part of microplastic fragments and fibres are transported by Atlantic and Pacific currents to the Arctic basin. However, no large-scale localisations of microplastics have been identified in the observation areas. Sampling of fish in commercial catches for microplastic contamination confirmed the presence of microplastic fragments ...
