Description
Summary:Sustainable development theory and practice tends to overlook rural communities and regions, while indicators to measure progress towards sustainable development often lacks essential local context and a clear vision for mobilizing society to take action. This project offers an approach that may be capable of addressing both of these gaps: storytelling for sustainable communities. Drawing from both global theory and practice on sustainability and empirical research from Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, this project explores the potential for community storytelling to translate sustainable development goals to rural and natural resource-based regions and mobilize local residents in telling their own sustainability stories.
