Summary:The purpose of this report is to provide an updated deterministic assessment of the size and geospatial density of water level stations for the National Water Level Observation Network (NWLON). The original report first published in March 2008 (Gill and Fisher 2008). It provides a rationale for the number of and location of NWLON stations that is required to support NOAA Missions and Goals. The report identifies specific locations where network gaps exist. Several gaps identified in the original report have been since filled with new NWLON stations and further refinement of the NWLON gaps has been made, primarily in the arctic region. A companion technical report NOS CO-OPS 0074 (Gill, 2014) assessing the Great Lakes component of the NWLON has also been published simultaneously to provide a complete assessment of the entire NWLON.
