He discusses the following: Ottoman and British rule; Ottoman period was good until they started military conscription, after which the situation became worse; disease; locust plague and the great snow of 1920 that covered the city for 14 days during which time people helped each other to clear the snow; the only education was in religious schools; when Britain took control of Palestine the country became a mess.
