This master thesis discusses animistic worldviews in Iceland from a culture- and social anthropological point of view. Many Icelanders nowadays assume that non-human beings, such as elves and hidden people, who are often counted among Iceland's cultural and national heritage, inhabit Icelandic nature and form part of it. This thesis uses qualitative empirical methods to investigate how animistic worldviews which recognize the existence of elves and hidden people affect the social and cultural lifeworld of Icelanders. In order to answer this research question, a total of 17 qualitative interviews with 19 participants of Icelandic origin were conducted in Iceland in 2017. Analysis of the data revealed that Icelanders who are possessing animistic worldviews are in a reciprocal relationship with nature and its non-human inhabitants, which expresses itself through interaction, communication and certain, often highly respectful, dealings with nature. Furthermore, positive influences on the experiences that informants have within nature, their well-being and search for identity can be ascertained. : Diese Masterthesis setzt sich aus kultur- und sozialanthropologischer Perspektive mit animistischen Weltbildern auf Island auseinander. Viele IsländerInnen gehen heutzutage davon aus, dass nicht-menschliche Wesen, wie Elfen und Hidden People, die häufig zum kulturellen und nationalen Erbe Islands gezählt werden, die isländische Natur bewohnen und einen Teil von ihr bilden. Diese Arbeit untersucht mit qualitativen empirischen Methoden, wie sich animistisch geprägte Weltbilder, welche die Existenz von Elfen und Hidden People anerkennen, auf die soziale und kulturelle Lebenswelt der IsländerInnen auswirken. Um diese Forschungsfrage zu beantworten, wurden im Jahre 2017 auf Island insgesamt 17 qualitative Interviews mit 19 isländischen TeilnehmerInnen durchgeführt. Die Analyse des Datenmaterials ergab, dass IsländerInnen, welche animistische Weltbilder besitzen, in ein reziprokes Beziehungsverhältnis mit Natur und deren nicht-menschlichen BewohnerInnen treten, das sich durch Interaktion, Kommunikation und einen bestimmten, häufig äußerst respektvollen Umgang mit Natur äußert. Des Weiteren lassen sich positive Einflüsse auf das Wohlbefinden, die Identitätsfindung sowie auf die Erfahrungen, die InformantInnen innerhalb der Natur haben, feststellen.
