Description
Summary:L1 time series of passive/discrete gaseous elemental mercury concentrations in ambient air at the Amsterdam (AMS) island district station (Pointe Benedicte atmospheric research station). Time-integrated samples were collected using passive air samplers (Tekran MerPAS) and later analysed by atomic absorption spectroscopy. Final volumetric air concentrations (in ng per cubic metre) are obtained by dividing the field blank-adjusted amount of Hg in each sampler (in ng) by the product of a temperature and wind-corrected sampling rate and the deployment duration in days. **Amsterdam Island** is a small island (55km2) located in the southern Indian Ocean (37◦48 S, 77◦34 E), 3400km and 5000km downwind from the nearest lands, Madagascar and South Africa, respectively. Instrumentation dedicated to the study of atmospheric mercury is located at the Pointe Benedicte station, at the northwest end of the island, 70m above sea level and 2km west of the scientific base (30 residents at most). ...
