Description
Summary:This dataset contains landsurface temperature collected by AVHRR satellites for the Arctic and processing of 2021-22 was partly supported as part of the AK NSF EPSCoR Fire and Ice program. The dataset is described as follows. The AVHRR-derived land-surface-temperature (Ts) data were corrected through effective cloud-masking techniques and calibrated using in situ surface-temperature data including temperatures from the Surface Heat Budget in the Arctic experiment conducted in the central Arctic from October 1997 through September 1998 and 2 meter air temperatures from meteorological stations (Comiso J C 2003 Warming trends in the Arctic from clear sky satellite observations J. Clim. 16). The data format is direct access binary with a spatial grid of 304 by 448 points, which is a 2-dimensional grid. Each data file contains monthly Ts data for January through December for a particular year. There are 41 data files, one for each year named as follows: ts_YYYY.bin, where YYYY goes from 1982 to 2022. There is a ...
