Description
Summary:A subcommittee 'Filchner-Ronne-Ice-Shelf-Programme' of the SCAR Working Group on Glaciology was established in 1983 to stimulate and coordinate glaciological research on the Filchner /Ronne ice shelves. Representatives of Argentina, Federal Republic of Germany, Great Britain, Norway, the USA and USSR have agreed to cooperate in order to throw light on the glaciological regime of the ice shelf. This report summarizes the glaciological investigations carried out in the past, current activities and future plans of the nations involved. Coordination of the science plans should lead to a comprehensive study resulting in a detailed picture of the glaciological regime. Further reports will be compiled and issued sporadically to inform about achievements, progress and further plans.
