Description
Summary:During a large number of dredgings in the soft sea bed off the south coast of Brittany, ten species were collected. These species included a new genus for the French coast: Cnemidocarpa sabulosa n. sp.; the species Polycarpa fibrosa mentioned for the French coast is split into three species one of which is new: P. kornogin.sp., with lusitanian affinities, P. cornata with arctic affinities and P. violacea which is only found in the littoral zone of the Channel. The study of granulometry represented by Shepard’s diagrams affords a precise ecological definition of the species found. Ascidians are good ecological indicators due to the strict limits in which they can survive.
