Summary:This data set consists of respiration estimated at usually three depths within the water column during summer 2002, spring 2004 and summer 2004 on cruises HLY-02-03, HLY-04-03, and HLY-02-04, respectively, abroad the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter (USCGC) Healy, in the western Arctic Ocean. The cruises were part of the National Science Foundation (NSF)-supported Shelf Basin Interaction (SBI) project. SBI was a multidisciplinary program to investigate the impact of global change on physical, biological and geochemical processes from the Chukchi and Beaufort Sea shelf to the basin of the Western Arctic Ocean. The respiration data were collected as part of an effort to understand heterotrophic processes that impact the flux of carbon from the shelf to the Arctic basin and from the surface ocean to the benthos.
