Aus der Bindung von CO-Liganden im Temperaturbereich von 10 bis 310 K wurde ein Modell des Bindungsprozesses aus dem Lösungsmittel über mehrere Protein-interne Zwischenzustände an das Eisen der Hämgruppe entwickelt. Ebenfalls konnten Konformations-veränderungen der Proteine sowohl in ihren strukturellen wie auch in ihren dynamischen Eigenschaften parametrisiert werden. Die zum Einsatz gekommenen experimentellen Methoden umfassen verschiedene zeitaufgelöste Spektroskopieexperimente (IR-Streckbanden des CO sowie Banden der Hämgruppe im sichtbaren Bereich; zeitaufgelöste Spektroskopie auf einer Wellenlänge und TDS-Experimente) sowie Röntgenstrukturanalysen.
