Description
Summary:No abstracts are to be cited without prior reference to the author. When forecasting catch of many commercial fish species abundance of fish at age 1-3 is one of the entry parameters to the stock/recruitment model. The abundance of fish is known to be formed at egg and larva stages which in their turn are dependent on a number of factors of both abiotic and biotic nature. For 35 years PINRO has been collecting data on abundance, distribution ahd survival of eggs and larvae of fish (60 species) living in the area of Lofoten Shallows and adjacent waters. Commercial species drew prime attention. As indicated by investigations there is a direct significant relationship between the abundance of third-year cod estimated using VP A and abundance of eggs caught in the sea (Mukhina, Yaragina, 1988). This allows to increase the time of forecast in advance of third-year cod abundance which gives the information on recruitment to commercial stock of cod. This paper on the basis of longer series of observations shows a ...
