Summary:The 2003 meeting of the Working Group on Marine Sediments in Relation to Pollution (WGMS) was opened at 10.00 hrs on 24 March. The Chair referred to the number of participants at the previous meeting and mentioned that a large number of participants (15) representing 12 countries were present. Kristoffer Næs from NIVA welcomed the group to Tromsø. He introduced his colleague Anita Evenset who would be the local contact during the meeting. The meeting was started by an opening speech from the Director of the Institute Dr. Salve Dahle who informed about the status of Akvaplan-Niva. The welcome speech was concluded by wishing the meeting a pleasant and productive week. Anita Evenset informed about logistic and facilities available. Kristoffer Næs explained the social programme. This would consist of a bus tour along some fjords. The return to Tromsø would be on a big steamer. On board NIVA will invite the group for a dinner. ...
