Summary:The project is a qualitative interpretive descriptive study designed to investigate the realities of being a firefighter in rural communities, including Indigenous communities. The study includes participants working a fire certification centre and volunteer or career firefighters in rural, often Indigenous, communities. Our focus is to unpack the challenges faced in rural firefighting, with a focus on meeting community needs, operational and organizational stresses, and equipment mishaps or malfunctions and how such impact practices. We also focus on how firefighters understand the perceived needs of their communities. A final focus will be on the well-being of the firefighters. ...
