Description
Summary:The vector files were obtained by digitizing the natural complexes and terrain types for a subset of the scanned and georeferenced image of the original Russian Map (Fedorov et al., 1989). The map „Permafrost landscape of Yakutia" describes physio-geographical characteristics of Yakutia. The map was georeferenced in ArcGIS based using map coordinates. A subset of the map was vectorized with an extent of: WGS84, upper left corner: lat 65, long 117.55, lower right corner: lat 61.05, long 131.05. Following components of the map were vectorized: Natural complexes and terrain types. The attribute field terrain_typ in the terrain_type_wgs84utm52n.shp and veg_type in the natural_complex_wgs84utm52n.shp show the classes as identified from the original map. The original Russian map legend (Yakutien_permafrost_landscape_legend1_russian.jpg and Yakutien_permafrost_landscape_legend_1_russian.jpg) was translated to English by Christine Siegert. The English legend provides the text (legend_permafrost_landscape_1_english.pdf and legend_permafrost_landscape_2_english.pdf). For signatures and numbers, please refer to the original Russian legends. The construction of the map is described in the file landscape_map_principles_english.pdf
