Description
Summary:The data set contains MODIS Normalized Differenced Vegetation Index (NDVI) monthly averages for the summer months of June, July and August in the Lena Delta. The data are based on NDVI monthly average values derived from MODIS satellite data (MOD13A3) with a pixel size of one kilometer over a period from 2009 to 2013. In the Lena Delta it is possible to distinguished three terraces (terrace 1 (LD T1), terrace 2 (LD-T2) and terrace 3 (LD-T3)), because the vegetation structure on the terraces are quite different to each other. Please refer also to Morgenstern et. al (2011, doi:10.1594/PANGAEA.758728).I investigated different NDVI statistics (min, max, mean and median) to understand the applicability of MODIS NDVI monthly average values for the Lena Delta tundra landscape. From the data it can be seen that the MODIS NDVI can be used at the spatial-scale level of the landscape scale to distinguish the different terraces, but with view to small spatial-scale caution is needed (e.g. working with single pixel values).
