Summary:This resource represents to date the largest collection of basidiomycetes yeasts isolated from lichen thalli and the first collection of yeasts associated with Peltigera lichens. The Microbial Ecology Lab (Universidad de Chile) collection comprises 180 basidiomycetes yeasts isolated and identified from Peltigera lichen thalli (P. frigida, P. fuscopraetextata, P. rufescens and P. antarctica) collected from southern Chile. The isolates were identified by sequencing the ITS marker and subsequent phylogenetic analyses. A great diversity of basidiomycetes genera was found, belonging to the classes Agaricostilbomycetes, Cystobasidiomycetes, Microbotryomycetes and Tremellomycetes and to the orders Agaricostilbales, Cystobasidiales, Cystofilobasidiales, Filobasidiales, Holtermanniales, Sporidiobolales and Tremellales.
