| Summary: | The collection of ocean benthic fauna of the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology (IORAS) contains 14 specimens of rare deep-sea asteroids of the genus Caymanostella , including 11 specimens from the Cayman trench which were used for establishing the genus and family. Caymanastellids are often reported to be associated with sunken wood. They are suggested to prey on the surface microbial film on waterlogged wood. The IORAS collection includes 3 species, C. spinimarginata , C. admiranda and C. madagascarensis . The dataset also includes 3 specimens of C. cf. spinimarginata collected in KuramBio II expedition in the Kurile-Kamchatka Trench, currently stored in IORAS, but will be later deposited in Senckenberg Research Institute and Natural History Museum, Frankfurt. ... |
