Summary:The diversity and abundance of small soil oligochaetes – enchytraeids were studied in the different biomes of the Asiatic part of Northern Palaearctic. We delimited our sampling area by the Ural Mountains in the west and the Central Asian states in the south (specifically Uzbekistan and Mongolia), excluding China. A total of 131 georeferenced sites were investigated, spanning 7 biomes as classified by WWF (Olson et al., 2001): tundra, boreal forests, temperate coniferous forests, temperate broadleaf and mixed forests, temperate grasslands, savannas and shrublands, flooded grasslands and savannas, and desert and xeric shrublands.
