| Summary: | <div> The materials presented in this volume include original language data collected from native speakers of the Southern Hokkaidō and Sakhalin varieties of the Ainu language. All the data presented here were collected in a 100-year span, between the 1900s and the 2000s. After a first introductory lesson, the course is divided into six macro-sections that focus on various topics of the Ainu language relative to six subdisciplines of linguistics (phonetics and phonology, morphophonology, morphosyntax, the syntax-semantics interface, semantics, and pragmatics). Each lesson presents one specific topic that is investigated taking into account both the Southern Hokkaidō variety and the Sakhalin variety of the language. Three kinds of activities guide the student throughout each lesson to inductively make generalizations on the language that can be supported by linguistic evidence.
