Summary:This paper contains localization and characteristics of coal deposits in the Faroe Islands. Samples were analysed by XRF. Major oxides and trace elements contents were compared for coal from the older Prestfjall Formation on the Mykines Island and from the younger Beinisvørð Formation on the Suduroy Island. Results show that the coal from both formations is geochemically distinguish.
