| Summary: | Popularization book Deer in the Šumava Mts. deals with all kinds of deer, which occur in the area of the Bohemian Forest (Šumava). Specifically, concerning the native species of deer (red deer, roe deer, European moose), but also invasive species (fallow deer, sika deer ), which occupy Šumava Mts.in different densities. For all of these species, book provide a description of the species, taxonomic status, ecological requirements and also the distribution of the species in Europe, in the Czech Republic and in Šumava Mts. Next chapter describes important aspects in the management of these species. Chapters, which deal with the red deer, roe deer and moose also contain the results of a seven-year long research project that used GPS satellite telemetry, which enabled a detailed insight into the life processes of observed species - their spatial activity in the Šumava Mts., home range size, preference and use of different types of habitats and also related issues concerning influence of deer on recovering forests in the Bohemian Forest.
