Summary:Common vole is known to be pest species in crops but it is also grave pest in orchards and forest regeneration. For example in spring 2006, vast impact of voles was recorded in central Moravia in most of the orchards. In some up to 62% of the young apple trees were totally damaged. It was caused above all by presence of grass stripes between the tree rows where voles were living during the vegetation period by high population densities of the voles in previous year and by long lasting and heavy snow cover during the winter.
