Summary:The article considers ornithomorphical symbols of aquatic birds in traditional culture of the Khanty. It is shown that in the national tradition birds are endowed with definite signs in accordance with their real idea, however, such perception is refracted through the prism of the mythological consciousness. They thought that aquatic birds that capable of being both in air and on earth, and under the water can own three worlds: upper, middle and lower. It's revealed that content of goose's and duck's images are the most archaic, they kept a deep imprint in Folklore, many folk epithets are formed on their foundation. Symbols of the majority of investigated birds reflect modern religion imagines. Birds are considered to be the hypostasis of the actual spiritual protectors.
