| Summary: | By the beginning of the XXIth century in a continental part of the EuroNorthEast of Russia viable groups of wild reindeer are only in the Republic of Komi, Nenets Autonomous Area and in the northeasternmost of the Arkhangelsk Region. Their total numbers are estimated as 78 thousand individuals, that is 2.53 times lower than in the early 1990s. The main cause of their number decrease is poaching. As it is practically impossible to stop illegal bag of ungulates and due to expanding of zones of anthropogenous activities it should be expected further decrease of numbers and a range size of the species. Without taking measures on conservation of local groups of wild reindeer this species may in the long run become extinct within a greater part of the territory of the region. |
