Summary:The survey of fish populations of the Kolva River within Kharyaga oil and gas field have been performed. There are six species of fish (Rutilus rutilus, Leuciscus idus, Perca fluviatilis, Esox lucius, Lota lota, Thymallus thymallus ).We did not find salmonid species, except for the rarely occurring Thymallus thymallus. It is caused pollution by accidents that occurred on oil pipelines in recent years. The dominant species among fish are Rutilus rutilus and Leuciscus idus, which are eurytopic species with high fecundity, which allows them to form a stable population in conditions of chronic pollution. The slower growth and lower fatness in fish have been revealed, compared with fish that live in the adjacent non-contaminated waters. The cause is a poor food supply, in particular deficiency of aquatic invertebrates. The restoration of salmonid populations in the Kolva River is possible by means of the recovery of the river bottom and its water, the cessation of pollutant entry into wastewater and work on reacclimatisation of valuable fish species.
