Description
Summary:The content of ascorbic acid and cardiac glycosides in 99 species of plants growing in Yakutia was studied. It was shown that those biologically active substances were accumulated most of all in leaves and fruits, and in a lesser extent – in flowers and roots. The distribution of ascorbic acid in different parts of plants is more or less even, whereas cardiac glycosides are accumulated in the main in fruits, leaves, flowers and in a very small amount – in a root system. It was supposed that the role of cardiac glycosides and ascorbic acid in plants is somewhat different. Cardiac glycosides play a regulatory role and their accumulation takes place in actively vegetating parts of a plant, whereas ascorbic acid is evenly distributed in all parts of a plant and is a main plastic material.
