| Summary: | The studies of almost 40 years carried out by the research workers of Kostroma Forest Research Station together with other branch and academic research institutions gave an opportunity to work out the methods of estimating the yield and resources of food and medicinal plants and edible mushrooms in the forests of the taiga zone. Criteria for determining commercial berry plantations and different ways for raising their productivity were shown. Simple and labour-saving methods of yield prediction and the terms of harvesting of berries and fruits were given. The impact of forest management activities on the status and productivity of wild berries and edible mushrooms was assessed. The resources of the main species of wild berries, mushrooms and medicinal plants in the forests of Kostroma region were studied. The problems of conservation of the most valuable berry and mushroom grounds were discussed. The most urgent directions of studying of non-wood plant resources were given. |
