Description
Summary:CATARINA Leg 2 - PALEOACID Cruise (29SG20120724) carried out on the Research Vessel Sarmiento de Gamboa in 2012 he Leg 2 of CATARINA (PALEOACID) cruise aims to retrieve surface and subsurface sedimentary samples from the bottom (Box Corer, Piston Corer y Gravity Corer) of the North Atlantic at around 3000-4000 m depth in several areas currently bathed by different components of the North Atlantic Deep Water (NADW), as the Labrador Sea Water (LSW), Denmark Strait Overflow Water (DSOW) Iceland-Scotland Overflow Water (ISOW) and North-East Atlantic Deep Water (NEADW). Neighbor areas of Gibbs Fracture Zone (GFZ), the main deep passage between the West and East North Atlantic basins are considered priority places to obtain samples. It has been used an Multisensor Core Logger (MSCL) onboard and X-ray equipment that allows to obtain x-rays of the different sections of the core
