Description
Summary:POWELL-2020 Cruise (29HE20200109) carried out on the Research Vessel Hespérides in 2020 The main goal of the POWELL: Is targets the Powell Basin and the South Orkney Microcontinent (SOM) where there is very little information. However, to understand their deep structure is key in the development of the southern Scotia oceanic basins. The proposed cruise includes collection of data to be related with ODP site 696, which is studies in the frame of TASDRACC project. Site 696 will allow to better understand the timing of the events recorded in the seismic profiles and the seismic data will allow us to extend regionally the results obtained from site 696, to the SOM, the Powell Basin and the southern continental margin of the Drake Passage. In this cruise we are expecting to collect: 1) EM122 multi beam bathymetry data; 2) parametric echo-sounder (TOPAS) profiles, 3) multichannel seismic reflection profiles, 4) magnetic data, 5) gravimetric data, 6) gravity cores, and 7) CTDs
