Description
Summary:SCAN-2001 Cruise (29HE20001207) carried out on the Research Vessel Hespérides in 2000 Geodynamics of the Scotia plate edge / Antarctic and Antarctic Deep Water paleoceanography. The project and the 2001 SCAN campaign focus on the analysis of areas that comprise the boundary between the Antarctic and Scotia plates. The basic objectives are oriented to the analysis of continental fragmentation processes and the creation of oceanographic basins. The thematic aspects include the geodynamic, petrological and seismic stratigraphy study of directional large faults, the development of backarc ocean basins, the creation of continental blocks and the paleoceanographic analysis on the evolution of Deep Antarctic Water. Special attention is paid to the establishment of the geological processes that take place at the edges of the plates. The aim is to distinguish between the factors linked to local phenomena (tectonic, sedimentary contribution) and those of a global nature (climatic-eustatic change, glacial cycles) which have controlled the paleoceanographic processes and the development of the various depositional provinces
