Summary: | Here is one of some 38 inexpensive Turkish editions of Aesop bought together. Among them, this book receives my prize so far because it offers 25 intriguing full-page duochrome illustrations. CW (26) has an evocative woman arising perhaps out of a flower or fire. FK (37) shows not a stork but a snake as the new king devouring a subject. The wolf is in an unusual standing position for the crane's removal of the bone from his throat (98). The cat hangs in a round bag as the two mice above discuss (117). Most illustrations are signed "Karaca Nusret." A T of C on 142-44 gives both the number and the page of the 100 fables. The full-color cover has a simple image of FC. Ergun offers a page of introduction before the first fable. Translated by Sami Ergun Language note: Turkish |
