The Southern Giant Petrel Macronectes giganteus is a member of the family Procellariidae that occupies a predatory as well as a necrophagous niche, feeding on birds, mammals, krill, squid, fish and shellfish (Conroy 1972, Johnstone 1977, Hunter 1983).
