Description
Summary:Cooperation with the studying of PAH profile and the prevailing sources of PAH pollution in snow samples, collected from Barentsburg area. The aim is to study in details particulate matter in aerosols, snow, drifting and fast ice and newly formed ice, under-ice water; to estimate their influence on sedimentation and pollution of the Arctic; to follow the way of transport of pollutants from Barentsburg and to estimate them. Making this studies systematic, will solve the questions of seasonal variability of quantity of transported matter. From the environmental point of view it would be interesting to combine such particulate matter studies with the information of PAH pollution of the observed area. The aim is to determine by means of GC/MS analysis the concentrations of 16 priority PAH’s in snow (snowmelt water) samples and to find out the prevailing source of pollution (pirogenic or petrogenic origin).
