| Summary: | This proposed management plan for banded killifish in Newfoundland has been prepared in cooperation with jurisdictions responsible for the species, as described in Appendix 1. Fisheries and Oceans Canada has reviewed and accepts this document as its management plan for banded killifish as required by the Species at Risk Act. Success in the management of this species depends on the commitment and cooperation of the various constituencies that will be involved in implementing the directions set out in this plan and will not be achieved by Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Environment and Conservation, or any other jurisdiction alone. In the spirit of the National Accord for the Protection of Species at Risk, both the federal and provincial governments invite all Canadians to join them in supporting and implementing this plan for the benefit of banded killifish and Canadian society as a whole. Both the Canadian and Newfoundland and Labrador Governments will support implementation of this strategy to the extent possible, given available resources and their overall responsibility for species at risk conservation. The Minster of Fisheries and Oceans will report on progress within five years. |
